Pluto is the second dwarf, next to Eris, in the Solar System. It is the largest member of a region called Kuiper Belt. It is composed of ice and rocks. It has an orbit and it is 4.4–7.4 billion km in its distance from the Sun. This is more inclined in respect to the other planets. Pluto comes closer to the sun as a result of this in comparison to Neptune.

Charon is its moon which is the largest. Pluto also has two smaller moons called Hydra and Nix. They were discovered in the year 2005. In 2006, when the definition of the word planet was revised it became a member of the new category of planets who are called as dwarf planets like Ceres and Eris. Pluto was added to this category.

In the year 1930, Clyde Tombaugh was on the search on a ninth planet. This was a part of his Lowell Observatory project. His work was to see the image of the sky at night and look at the photographs to examine each and every photograph whether there had been a change in position. A machine called blink comparator was used to know if there was any movement. This way the plant Pluto was later discovered on photographs in the year 1915.
