</p><p>The word “Forensis” means forum in Latin. The word Forensic Science has its bearing to the old Latin word. In old Rome, a criminal charge was usually associated with the presentation of the case before a group of erudite people. The accuser and accused would be allowed to present their versions and the one among those who heard the case and who was the best in his presentation of argumentation was chosen to find out about the case. Today, forensic science is a shortened form of forensics which is used in relation to a civil action or crime. Forensic is a synonym to “courts” or “legal” according to the dictionary. Forensics has many branches that deal with the application of this science to questions related to evidences like trace, biological, impression, ballistics, controlled substances. The evidence are all examined and processed in a crime lab. </p><p> The evidences generally refer to tire tracks, foot prints, finger prints, firearm examination and so on. These are a part of Criminalities, a branch in Forensics. There are also forensic archeology, forensic anthropology, forensic entomology, forensic geology, forensic odontology, forensic pathology, and forensic toxicology - referring to sciences that deal with the study of different aspects associated with a crime.</p><p> The fictional character Sherlock homes made the use of forensic science as one of his methods of investigation. The creator of Holmes, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was inspired by his teacher at the school of medicine, Joseph Bell, the forensic detective and surgeon at the University of Edinburgh.</p><p>
