It is bounded by Mexico to its northwest, Pacific Ocean to its northwest, Caribbean Sea to northeast, Pacific Ocean to its southwest, and El Salvador and Honduras to its southeast. It is one of the most populated nations of Central America. It is a representative democracy and Guatemala City being its capital. It is an important biodiversity hotspot. Due to its cultural and ecological diversity, it has become a famous tourist attraction. Population of Guatemala is estimated to 12,728,111 in 2007. </p><p> Guatemala is home to many museums and libraries holding an excellent collection of Maya artifacts. Literature of Guatemala is very rich. Music of Guatemala includes many styles and expressions. Marimba is the national instrument of Guatemala. Spanish is the official language however it is not spoken universally. Mayan languages are spoken in the rural areas of Guatemala and non-Mayan languages like Garifuna, Xinca and Amerindian languages are spoken by the rest. Earlier, Catholic Christianity was the only religion followed however as time passed some other religions are also followed in this country. </p><p> An incessant development and economic growth is found in Guatemala. As per CIA World Factbook, GDP of Guatemala is US$5,000. Remittances comprise largest single source of income to Guatemala. The country has financial and political stability also ahs abundant natural resources and opportunities for foreign investment. The agriculture sector contributes one fourth of the GDP. Tourism in Guatemala has become a great revenue source to the country. </p><p>
