Switzerland is bordered by the countries Germany, Italy, Austria and Liechtenstein. Switzerland is a multilingual country and has 4 national languages including German, French, Italian and Romansh. Switzerland is a peace loving nation and has not been at war since 1815. This is in stark contrasts to its neighbors who have played major roles in the two world wars. It houses many international organizations such as Red Cross, WTO and UN’s two European offices. </p><p> The country boasts of a rich and diverse cultural heritage influenced by the German, Italian, French and Rhaeto-Roman cultures. Over the years these have amalgamated to render the region with an independent streak. The Swiss are known for their humanitarian tradition, the fact that Switzerland is the birth place of the Red Cross and the United Nations Human Rights Council is strong proof for the same. </p><p> Switzerland features a highly stable economy with a per capita GDP that is higher than that of the western European biggies. USA and even Japan. Switzerland is ranked as the most competitive economy in the world by the World Economic Global Competitiveness. The country had remained the wealthiest country in Europe for much of 20th century. Since two thirds of the country is covered by forests it has very little mineral resources. Switzerland imports them process them and resell as products. The main industries include machineries, confectioneries, watch making, dairy and agriculture.</p><p>
