</p><p>Channel Islands, off the French coast of Normandy are a group of islands located in the English Channel. IT comprises of two jurisdictions , the Bailiwick of Jersey and the Bailiwick of Guernsey The total population comprises of about 160,000.The two Bailiwicks have no common elections ,no common laws and no common representative body There is no common radio station or newspaper ,but there is a common television station.</p><p> Until the 19th century the Norman language was dominant, but influence from English speaking settlers led to Anglicisation. The four major dialects of Norman in the islands are Auregnais, Sercquiais ,Jerriais and Dgernesiais. Victor Hugo wrote Les Miserables when he spent many years in exile. People represent their respective islands to compete against each other in the Commonwealth Games. Shooting happens to be a popular sport in the island, and individuals from the islands have also won medals in this sport. The annual inter island football competition which is a mega sporting event of the year is broadcast on TV.</p><p> Agriculture and the tourism industry tend to contribute towards the economy of the islands Horticultural and glasshouse activities also contribute towards the economy of the islands.</p><p>
