</p><p>Forums are websites set up to facilitate discussion of a particular topic. The discussion takes place in the form of written posts to which replies can be made. A forum may be divided into specific areas where sub-specialities of the overall speciality can be discussed. </p><p> Some forums permit anyone to post or respond to other posts; most, however, require those who want to post to first register on the site. Usually, registration is uncomplicated, requiring a minimum of personal information and often only an email adddress. In a typical forum registration process, a confirmation email will be sent to the email address which was given and the user must then click on it to activate the forum account. Most forums incorporate a permission system under which accounts have a graduated set of capabilities. New users would usually be able to both make new posts or respond to old ones. Usually, there also administrative users who have the ability to delete or modify posts or ban user accounts.</p><p> Some forums incorporate feedback systems where readers can give a “thumbs-up” or “thumbs-down” to other users. In this way, users who enjoy great respect from the community of people who are active on the forum can have their status recognised.</p><p>
